Therapeutic Storytelling: Addressing Challenging Behaviour and Developing Positive Values through the Medium of Story (Introductory Seminar)

In this one day seminar, examples, ideas and techniques for writing healing (‘medicinal’) stories are shared and the therapeutic use of metaphor explored. With the support of a story-making framework, the participants are guided to create their own stories addressing a range of challenging behaviours and challenging situations with children and adults.  (The preferred timing for this workshop is 8 hours – 9.00 to 5.00 - which includes a one hour lunch break and two half hour tea breaks. If full translation is required, then allow two days for this workshop.)

Therapeutic Storytelling: Stories Know the Way (Advanced Seminar)

For participants who have attended my introductory TS workshop and/or who have read Sections 1 and 2 of my book 'Healing Stories' or Section A of my book 'Therapeutic Storytelling'

In this one day seminar we will be exploring in greater depth ‘What is Imagination’ and ‘Why do stories know the way’ (or why do stories help find the way)? There will be time allowed for questions and the sharing of ideas/stories created since the previous workshop, as well as time for some new metaphor and story-making exercises. The use of healing stories for community and national challenging situations will be addressed, as well as the therapeutic value of writing stories for oneself. (The preferred timing for this workshop is 8 hours – 9.00 to 5.00 - which includes a one hour lunch break and two half hour tea breaks. If full translation is required, then allow two days for this workshop - 9.00 to 4.30 per day)

Storytelling for Young Children: A Practical Introduction to the Healing Art of Storytelling - using simple props to help the story-reader put down the book and become a storyteller (9.00 to 4.00)

This full day workshop aims to explore the power of storytelling as a healing art in today's world, especially needed to balance the passive experience of screen time that more and more is dominating our children’s lives. Working with both a theoretical and practical approach, and using simple props and techniques, Susan will demonstrate ways to help adults living and working with young children find steps to ‘put down the book’ and become "tellers" of stories. Participants will spend the workshop hearing and 'playing' with storytelling, and be encouraged to make and use simple props for story ideas - all the while learning new ways to breath imaginative life into their day, at home and at school. (The preferred timing for this workshop is 7 hours – 9.00 to 4.00 - which includes a one hour lunch break and two half hour tea breaks. If full translation is required, then allow two days for this workshop.)
